Sam Hill

In my career as an educator, I have held a variety of different roles teaching English and PE. I started my journey as a TA at the secondary school I attended as a teenager (which was interesting!) and then went on to become a qualified English teacher, Head of House, Assistant Head of Year and Deputy Head of Department before moving to fulfil a dream of mine: working abroad.

About Me

It is my professional belief that our responsibilities as educators do not stop at the classroom door. Teaching a student to access the ‘perfect essay’ technique; how to analyse an author’s intentions or how to correctly use ambitious punctuation is just the start. Modelling kind, respectful and motivated behaviour is just as important. That way, we do not just create great students but great characters, personalities – people.

I expect students to leave my classroom as well- moulded young adults. Young adults with distinct personalities. Young adults desperate to achieve. English, as a subject, has the power to do this and when accompanied with inspirational and innovative teachers the potential is endless.

I’m looking forward to teaching at a school that shares these same beliefs.

I’m originally from Gloucestershire in the UK but I have been in Dubai now for 2 years. Outside of work my main passion is sport. I am a keen footballer and qualified coach who has played and coached at good level in the UK and now the UAE. Aside from football, I like to play golf, stay fit in the gym, and travel. My passion for travelling and new experiences is ultimately what led me to this incredible country

My Experience

BA (Hons) Journalism | PGCE Secondary English

After leading countless after-school clubs in my career, most of my ‘best’ moments have been on the side of a sports pitch. Several regional championships, previous students achieving professional contracts and an U14 team who were, at one stage, the 2nd best team in the country all contribute to reminding me the best part of teaching … is the students!
